Toni Kroos has announced that he will end his international retirement next month.

Kroos, who has not played for Germany since 2021, decided to step back from international duty after his country's defeat to England in the European Championships that summer.

The seasoned Real Madrid player, however, has now reversed his choice and will make himself available for coach Julian Nagelsmann in their March friendlies.

Germany is set to host Euro 2024 in June, where they have been placed in Group A alongside Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland.

A statement on Kroos' Instagram confirmed that Nagelsmann asked him to return, and he will be participating in matches against France and the Netherlands during the upcoming international break.

Kroos said on Instagram: “I will play for Germany again in March. Why? Because I was asked by the coach (Julian Nagelsmann), I’m in the mood and I’m sure that with the team at the European Championship, much more is possible than most believe right now!”

After Euro 2020, Kroos took a break from international football to prioritize spending time with his family and ensure he could maintain high performance levels at Real Madrid.

On January 31, The Athletic reported that Kroos was reconsidering his decision to retire from international football. The player confirmed this during a press conference in Germany, held ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League last-16 first leg tie against RB Leipzig.

He has earned 106 caps for Germany and was a pivotal figure in the squad that secured the World Cup in 2014.

Kroos was awarded the man of the match in the semi-final against Brazil and started the final against Argentina, playing the full 120 minutes as Germany secured a 1-0 victory.

He was also included in the team of the tournament for Euro 2016, as Germany lost 2-0 to France in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Kroos has not yet decided on his Real Madrid future.

The board informed him some time ago that he can renew his contract, which expires on June 30, whenever he wishes.
